Re:    Planning Application:               15/500

          Applicant:                                     Applegreen Service Areas Ltd.

Development Location:                 Former Cemex Site, Maudlin Roundabout, Naas, Co. Kildare

Dear Sir / Madam,

The North Kildare Chamber of Commerce is the largest business organisation in Co. Kildare with 370 business members representing 37,000 employees.

On behalf of our members we wish to make an observation in relation to the above planning application that is at present under consideration by the Planning Authority. We enclose a cheque in the amount of €20, it being the prescribed fee.

In principle, the North Kildare Chamber of Commerce supports fully this planning application. In determining the application we would respectfully request that the Planning Authority consider the following matters:

1.The proposed development represents a successful re-use of an unsightly brownfield site at a prominent access point to Naas Town;

2.The proposed development is in accordance with the objectives of the Naas Town Development Plan 2011 and the Co. Kildare Development Plan 2011-2017;

3.The proposed development meets the requirements of the NRA in providing a service station facility on the M7.

4.The proposed development complements the proposed upgrade of the N7 Naas bypass, Osberstown Interchange and Sallins bypass and will reduce the impact on traffic entering Naas;

5.The proposed development is unlikely to impact negatively on Naas Town centre due to the significant distance (approx. 2.25 km) between the subject site and the CBD. Naas has 58 restaurant / takeaway units of which only two are currently vacant.

6.The proposed development is likely to generate up to 400 jobs which are of enormous benefit to the local economy and community.

For the above reasons we believe that the proposed development would be in accordance with the proper planning and sustainable development of the site and respectfully request that the Planning Authority grants planning permission for the development with or without conditions.

Yours faithfully,

Allan Shine CEO
