Move to Sustainable Local Authority Funding a Positive Step

North Kildare Chamber has today (04/09/2014) welcomed the decision to allow Local Authorities to retain 80% of the Local Property Tax (LPT) collected within their area.

Speaking this afternoon, Allan Shine, CEO of North Kildare Chamber said, “It is vital that funds raised through the LPT are used to provide a sustainable funding base for Local Authorities. This will help provide a new level of autonomy for local government, and importantly, it will encourage accountability at a local level.”  Especially in a County such as Kildare, we are experiencing a surge in the basic needs of services for business.

“We welcome the efforts made by Government towards ensuring equitable funding for Local Authorities across the State, particularly in Kildare  .   We urge our councillors in Kildare County Council not to reduce the Local Property Tax as a  reduction potentially will  lead to a decline in the level of services provided by the authority and there will be an expectation that local businesses will make up the shortfall in terms of commercial rates” he concluded.
