This afternoon (16th October ), Kildare Chamber welcomed the news that  MSD, known as Merck & Co., Inc. of Kenilworth, New Jersey, USA in the U.S. and Canada, will construct a second manufacturing facility at its existing site in Carlow with the creation of 170 new jobs.

The new facility will focus on the production of vaccines and biologics and there will also be an expansion of warehouse and laboratory services at the site.  Recruitment for the new facility will commence immediately and it is intended that the new manufacturing operations will commence in 2023.

Allan Shine, CEO of Kildare Chamber said, “This is very welcomed news for the Mid-East region.  MSD is one of Ireland’s leading healthcare companies and currently employs approximately 2,000 employees across its current operations in Carlow, Cork, Dublin and Tipperary.  The decision to further invest in Carlow is a real testament to the talent of the current Carlow team and MSD Ireland’s wider employee base and reinforces MSD’s commitment to Ireland.   MSD’s continued investment in Ireland is due to continued access to highly-skilled employees as well as collaborative partnerships with Government and Third Level institutions.  The Chamber look forward to working closely with MSD and assisting the company with the recruitment process”.

Shine concluded by saying, “FDI growth is crucial for our region and the news today from MSD further cements our belief that this region is the ideal  location of choice for both existing and potential business enterprise”.
