Model and healthy lifestyle guru, Rosanna Davison is joined by Sean Kealy and Paula Flanagan of Lawlor’s of Naas Town Centre Hotel to launch the Lawlor’s of Naas Grade 1 Novice Hurdle and Winter Ladies Day at Naas Racecourse.

The Lawlor’s of Naas Grade 1 Novice Hurdle and Winter Ladies Day will be held at Naas Racecourse on Sunday, 6th of January. This premier race is the first Grade 1 fixture of the racing year and is the feature race meeting at Naas Racecourse.

Key to the success of procuring prominent races which attract some of the best National Hunt horses in Ireland is the partnership with local businesses in the town. This year’s Lawlor’s of Naas Grade 1 Novice Hurdle and Winter Ladies Day promises to attract another batch of classy young talent. Lawlor’s of Naas Town Centre Hotel has been the title sponsor of this prestigious racing fixture since 2015, at which time the race was upgraded to Grade 1 status. Since Lawlor’s of Naas Town Centre Hotel took over the title sponsorship of the race the prize fund has swelled to an impressive €90,000, making it a highly attractive and valuable proposition for owners and trainers.

Speaking ahead of the Lawlor’s of Naas Grade 1 Novice Hurdle and Winter Ladies Day, Tom Ryan, Naas Racecourse Manager, said, “Local businesses and traders are extremely important to us.  The town, the local community and the traders are the life blood of our track.  The fact that we are so close to the centre of the Naas and are within walking distance of Main Street makes us quite unique in the racing world.  Most tracks are out of town with no pedestrian access, our location means that we are accessible to everyone. We are very much part of the town and offer our local community world class racing action on their doorstep.  Over the years the local traders and business community have been extremely supportive, and we are very grateful for their sponsorship and collaboration.  To show our appreciation we are offering a 50% discount to Naas traders on admission tickets for the January fixture.  We want to encourage more of Naas town to go racing!”

Naas-based fishmongers East Coast Seafood and Gouldings Hardware will once again co – sponsor the East Coast Seafood & Gouldings Hardware Handicap Steeplechase. The final race of the day will be sponsored by Rushe’s Supervalu, who will continue to sponsor the Rushe’s SuperValu INH Flat Race. Sponsorship from further afield on the day comes from prominent horse racing supporter JP McManus who will sponsor the Adare Manor Opportunity Handicap Hurdle. The Irish EBF will sponsor the remaining three races on the card culminating in a fantastic day of racing action at Naas Racecourse.

Partners for the Winter Ladies Day fashion competition on the 6th of January are all based in Naas Town and include the feature sponsors of the day Lawlor’s of Naas Town Centre Hotel, Alan Keville for Hair and Residence Day Spa. The head fashion judge is model, author and lifestyle guru, Rosanna Davison who will lead the charge in the search for the Best Dressed Lady.  The winner of the fashion competition will bag herself €1,500 worth of hairdressing and accessories from Alan Keville for Hair, a €1,500 voucher from Residence Day Spa and a luxurious stay at Lawlor’s of Naas Town Centre Hotel. There will also be hair and spa vouchers from the two fashion partners for four runners up on the day.  Rosanna will be supported in her endeavours by a representative of each of the fashion sponsors and by Anna Fortune, Commercial Manager of The Kildare Post who is the media partner for the race day.

Racing at Naas offers fans the opportunity to get a glimpse of future racing stars, these include horses which will race in major festivals later in the season. Indeed, many people refer to Naas Racecourse as ‘The Nursery of Champions’ alluding to the fact that many horses which have success at Naas often go on to win many important races at meetings home and abroad.  Last year’s winner was the Willie Mullins-trained Next Destination, who then went on to be placed at the Cheltenham Festival. Later, in the season he went on to add more Grade 1 success at the Punchestown Festival in April.
